DISCLAIMER: Due to changing weather patterns, weed times may vary from year to year in any zone. Germination dates used here are from USDA Hardiness Map, 1982.

An understanding of weed germination timing can assist in the development of control programs. Whether making an herbicide application or preparing for physical plant removal, control activities are generally most effective when weeds are young, flowering and seed producing.

Descripton of the Germination Dates Page

This part of the screen contains links to the homepage (Home), to the main weed listing page (Full Weed Listing) and to this page (Click here for disclaimer . . .)

Here is where you can select which Region you wish to see germination dates for. You can also choose to view germination dates for All Regions instead of a specific Region. When you select a Region this area will change to show which Region you have chosen. Also, area #6 will change to a zone map of the selected Region as well as clearing out area #4.

After selecting a Region you then need to select a month. Selecting a month will fill in area #4 with weeds that are known to germinate in the Region you have selected during the month you have selected.

Here is where the weeds that germinate in the Region you have chosen, during the month that you have chosen, are displayed. When you select a weed from the displayed list it will fill in area #5 with the months and zones that the weed is known to germinate in.

This window displays the germination dates for whatever weed has been chosen in area #4. Each month that the selected weed is germinating is displayed along with which zones on the map (area #6) the weed is germinating in.

On the screen displayed above you can see that in January the weed is germinating in Zones 9 and 10, February through March the weed is germinating in Zones 7 and 8 and so on.

Also in this area is an option to view "more weed info". Clicking on this option will take you to a page that contains a description of the weed as well as Integrated Pest Control Recommendations and a link to both the PBI/Gordon Product Recommendations and the University Links if you wish to research alternative control options.
